Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning permission?

Regulations vary and it’s dependant on the project.

We can help advise or point you in the right direction, but it’s best to go straight to the council’s advice sites:

https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200125/do_you_need_permission/90/interactive_house

https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/17/extensions

https://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/content/planning/planning-applications/householder-applications-and-proposals

There’s also a very handy page on the Brighton Council website, which discusses planning permission, the difference between building regulations and planning permission and lots of other useful information.

If you’d like to talk this through with us first please call us on 07795 634639.

Can you recommend an architect?

Yes, we can. We’ve worked with several architects over the years and can provide you with the details of those most suited to your project. If you already have an architect in place, we are happy to liaise with them.

How long will my renovation take?

We will discuss start and estimated completion dates with you before the project commences. We’ll keep you fully updated with progress during the course of the job.

What happens when we’ve agreed to go ahead?

We will contact you to arrange a convenient time to visit and sign contracts. You’ll have a copy of the contract to keep, plus a payment schedule. We have found that this answers many of the questions that clients have and keeps the process transparent.

We will then give you a start date and the project will begin accordingly.

Can I see examples of your past work or can I contact some of your references?

Absolutely! We welcome contact with our previous clients or perhaps visiting one of completed projects where convenient. We can provide you with references to call.

Help! I want to change how my home works but don’t know where to start.

We are always happy to meet with you and talk through the options, tell you about what we’ve done in the past and listen to your ideas.
